Paris - La Vie en Rose - Part One

Hello everyone,

I have been absent again, I know, unfortunately I haven't had a lot to post about lately. But this is not the case today as I am here to finally post about the hottest lolita event of the year for all European Lolitas, La Vie en Rose, the 2015 event by Street Fashion Europe (along with the local community of course).

Not sure if you know but I am the SFE representative for my country, Portugal and so it is partially a responsability to attend every year. Last year, for Enchanted, I could only attend the actual weekend events and couldn't help much in the days before, etc so when i heard that I'd have the week before off work, I was super happy and started planning as soon as possible.
Unfortunately I also found out that I was going alone. The Portuguese community is very small and only one or two people ever consider saving up for things like this and the ones that do were not going. I had to look for a place to stay with someone else and share the costs/to have more fun (because going alone is no fun).

I was super lucky because when i posted asking for room mates one of the people i love most contacted me and asked me if i'd like to stay with her and other girls. It was a bit on the pricey side for me but i could not pass on that opportunity, I still cannot believe how lucky I was to have spent those days with the coolect flat mates ever.

So I booked for a thursday - the event would be saturday/sunday.
I had no idea what to wear up to the last minute and ended up sewing the whole night before leaving because i just came up with a last minute concept. I was pretty inspired and loved working on the pieces but also freaked out a bit because of how different the whole thing was.

I did not sleep and just woke up my husband who would take me to the airport.
I used ryanair because it was the cheapest option. The problem is how distant the airports are from the city centers and Paris Beauvais is pretty distant. When I arrived the first thing I noticed was the cold, it was freezing!
The bus trip gave me some time to sleep which was good and when i arrived i remembered the stop and managed to get quickly to the subway. The trip was short, around 4 stops and the trains did not have a lot of people so the bags were not a problem (but of course i'd like some elevators to carry them with less effort but everyone knows how bad the stations are for people carrying bags, tons of stairs, no escalators and no elevators).

I got out and got lost for the first time, but eventually found the place (people had to help me though, thank goodness for my terrible french).

When I arrived at the building, i managed to go in, and get to the second floor  but after ringing the bell i discovered my room mates were not in. I managed to contact them soon after but they were at another location so i'd have to wait a while which was fine. I eventually got in before that because there is a connection to another flat for the care taker.

When the girls arrived I changed into something more fitting and we went to a café where we had something to eat.
We walked a bit in champs elysees and then went back to the flat where i just passed out. The girls woke me up to go to a party at Alex's that night.

We were supposed to take food and drinks so we stopped at a supermarket and i bought a bottle of Port wine which wasn't expensive, a bit more than in Portugal but not a ridiculous price. I felt stupid though, "should have brought a bottle myself" - i thought.
It was a great party, I met some new girls there and everyone was super at ease and friendly. I drank a bit i must say and have no regrets.

Friday, the 20th February

The next day strangely we managed to wake up quite easily. It was still morning and we were all strolling around Paris. The plan was to visit the Parisian BABY, the Stars Shine Bright store, Axes Femme and then eventually I'd have to leave the girls to go to the venue location to work (as part of Street Fashion Europe).
Along the way we saw some lovely buildings, I found Paris to be rather charming, I always love the architecture as well as the smell of fresh bread and pastries everywhere.

Finally we arrived at the store. It was the same as I remember it except for some reason I couldn't really remember the street, it looked quite different from before, i think we just went there from a completely different side for me.

The store was almost empty, only two girls were inside but left soon after. I found the store to be reasonably stocked although there was nothing small that i wanted and I always find it impossible to afford the prices. I fell in love with the blouses of course and strangely I fell in love with one dress that Jo tried on and I asked to try on as well.

It was the Alice and the Pirates Rosier onepiece in dark blue and white lace and although i usually find white lace on dark colors a bit tacky i just loved it on. I wish i could find it again at a more affordable price but that's probably not going to happen.

Oh and I also fell for this dress, I have always wanted it and its as beautiful as I had imagined. Unfortunately it was in the store window so I did not have the courage to ask to try it on so I have no idea if it would fit me.

We were at the store for some time, the girls got some items and then we met up with other lolitas there was well, it was great because they knew exactly how to get to the Axes Femme store too. I really was having a great time and dreading having to leave their company to be honest.

Along the way (now it was raining a bit) we saw something lovely, live painting restoration being done by artists in a "school" or shop. They were so focused in their work they did not even notice that all of us stopped staring in awe.

Eventually we found our way to the Axes Femme store. We also met Kyra and some others at that time which was very good for me since i had no idea where the heck I was at that time and they would eventually have to go to the venue location as well.

The Axes Femme was in a completely different neighborhood, in the middle of many other boutiques which made sense. I love how the store was lit and the decoration, it was very agreable inside as well. the store seemed reasonably stocked but for some reason while I was browsing everything kept disappearing, a certain girl in our party was doing some serious shopping. Honestly I was in awe and positively jealous. I believe the store girls were very happy with the visit, I myself got two things in the store. The prices were much more expensive than the japanese ones but for Paris it seemed super affordable imo.

We then went to have tea in a famous tea place neaby since none of us had eaten anything.
The smell when one went in is impossible to describe, it just smelt like... happiness, it was ridiculously fabulous. I just inhaled deeply a couple of times and I swear I saw one of the employees let go of an honest smile then. I wanted to bring back some tea but was unsure of how much I could spend and I have an inability to make choices when there's too much to choose from and there certainly was. I know they have branches in Japan so when I am there I will try to visit their location in Osaka. I really loved it.

The seating dispositions and the light in the area we got places were however much less impressive, i really do not respond well to yellow light which was what they had so that's why the photos are all so unimpressive. Still I took a photo of their meny as well as the food I ordered and will let you come to your own conclusions. Either way, if you are in Paris and you enjoy good tea, I do recommend a visit.

After this and unfortunately the service was slow and it took a while to be able to leave we ended up arriving at our destination later than we had hoped and felt a bit guilty. Fortunately nobody seemed to worry much about that and I actually found that everything was set up and going well.
We stayed for hours and eventually everyone left for the organization dinner. We went to a crepe place and the crepe were divine as well.

The triple fortune staff came along and so did the photographers but not the Btssb staff which is understandable, it was a very tiring day for everyone.
I eventually managed to get to the flat alone (thanks to kyra and dom <3).
The girls were still awake so we sat in our strangely decorated study room for a while and drank some wine. Everyone was excited for the next days to come.

Oh and this is what I wore, I picked something confortable and the beret was the best pick because of the rain as well. Nothing too special. (and those are the venue bathrooms, i mean isn't that ridiculously awesome?!)

Hope you enjoyed reading,
Love,
Jo

9th March

After an odd night that Saturday, (We changed, went out for kebabs and witnessed a robbery and waited 15min for the police to arrive while noticing that apparently nobody cared and reported it - despite a lot of people walking by - sad huh?) we had a more relaxed Sunday.

First my family was gone, so no mom and my brother also went to rest due to having gotten a cold and second Sunday's are always a bit... slow.

We hanged out at home a while and then in the afternoon finally left to walk around town a bit and for Mari to run around because that's her favorite thing right now.

I recently got another dress, its not really a new dress, but a dress I already own in another color way. One of the local lolitas has it in yet another color so I thought it would be fab if we did a trio. Sadly we never heard back from said Lolita so it ended up being me and fla twinning again. I changed the outfits in order for them to kinda be a twin and off we went. My favorite outfit is fla's. I just adore the burgundy ribbon on that dress, I think its pretty unexpected. Obviously I matched it with burgundy pieces and I think it works out quite nicely.

I am not really sure about this cut on me actually, for casual outings sure, for actual proper Lolita like this... I'm not sure it suits me. It makes me bulkier than normal. I do adore the print on the dress and the fabric though so I'm sad to let these go. They were not super cheap either.

Eventually fla had to get ready to leave which was sad.... we will miss having her around, I felt so... appreciated... actually no, I felt like someone considers me to be a good friend and wants to hang out with me which is something I have not had for a while nor did I know that I was not getting.
That made me get very gloomy these next days, I think you only miss things when you acknowledge them. I got so used to being with my family and only meeting certain people on some occasions that spending a whole weekend with someone dedicating their full attention to me kind of spoiled me.
I now plan to kidnap fla and her boyfriend and "force" them to move to the most amazing Portuguese city of them all, Porto.

Anyway I hope you enjoyed reading and looking at the photos.
I had so much fun twinning, I want to do it again soon!
Love,
Jo

30 year old Lolita

Hello everyone.

Well i can't hide it, i'm 30, thiiiirty! I am lucky enough to not look too old yet but that means something. I wonder how much longer will I manage to look ok in lolita. I know some people say there's no age limit but I have one: it is when I think I no longer look ok in the style. I hope that'll only happen when I'm 50 but we do not know the future.
I'm sure I'll always have some connection with lolita though, it really is the thing I love the most (other than the obvious much more important things such as friends and familly...).
I remember my familly telling me this was just another phase and that I'd go to the next cool thing but I can now say I really have shown them it was not the case.

I love lolita, I love it dearly... I protect it as much as I can and I try to advertise it in order for our community to grow or at least to be here.

Anyway that's now what I wanted to say, getting back on track here.... *clears throat* I am posting the first outfit after turning 30 today. I hope you guys like it. <3

I am wearing:
- Moi-même-Moitié headbow
- Handmade flower comb (gift from my friend Mafalda)
- Handmade flower neckace (another gift from Mafalda)
- Baby, the stars shine bright shirt
- Alice and the Pirates jsk
- Primark tights
- T.U.K. shoes
- Maruione bought blue ring, key bracelet by meow, primark bracelet, vintage stone ring.

I'm 3 weeks away from finally being on vacations. I am going to visit my inlaws again this year. I am not thrilled about going in the summer though. We're finally having a cool summer in Portugal (everyone else seems upset but I was thrilled to hear that - hate the heat) and what do we do? We go to a country where summers are hot and humid. -_-;

Oh and of course you'd like to hear about shopping right? Well I honestly have not done much of that recently. I did buy a dress early this month and I have two dresses sitting in my inlaws place for months now so lets talk about those. Here they are:

#1 Aatp The Frozen Queen Jsk II
(rosario / bordeaux color)

#2 Aatp Grimoir and the Moonlight Night jsk II
(rosario / bordeaux color)

#3 Atelier Pierrot Red Ridding Hood print jsk
(black color)

#4 Swan Chandelier High Waist jsk
(olive color)

So even though I am not going on a shopping spree this time around (wish i could) I feel like I already have went on one. I love all these dresses so much, some aren't my prefered style or colorway but they all rock anyway. I hope they all suit me and fit me well.

That's it for today's post.
Love always,
Jo <3

PARIS trip - Part one (b)

Day2: Saturday the 2nd of July

After going to the stores in the morning we just rushed back to our hotel room and started getting dressed for the Btssb tea party. We had planned to go by metro but that was before encountering an event at AP that we weren't expecting. So basically we knew we were late and we asked the hotel to call a cab for us which they did.

We got complimented on by the hotel staff again haha and got into the cab. I hadn't been in Paris ever since I was a kid, in my form9 or so.. and Vania couldn't recognize the roads either so we were keeping our fingers crossed that the cab driver wasn't driving us around for extra bucks because we were really stressed out for being late. Vania said that these things never start on time but when we got there (10min late) nobody was at the door. We saw a gorgeous girl wearing the most incredible pirate outfit ever (even I would wear that and i'm not much keen on themed lolita) and went in with her.

When we got there the room was impressive!

The whole hotel was incredibly fancy, the room in particular with its rococo glorious details and golden wood finish. The tables were big and full and we had a very hard time in finding a place for us to sit together.
We saw friends but their tables were full already which sucked.

We sat with what i thought were french lolitas. I said "hi" but didn't get much of a reply and they didn't seem very interested in chatting with us either so we were terribly bored in the beginning. There were two perfectly dressed and classic lolita reminiscent asian girls on my right and they started chatting in chinese. I asked them if they could speak english too and they went balistics. "You can speak chinese!" they said. I nooded and finally we could chat a bit with someone at our table. They were really nice and when i happened to listen to what they were talking about (not like i could ignore since i was next to them haha) they seemed to be normal people which lets face it, its not necessarily 100% guaranteed when it comes to people who are into this sort of thing.

Before that I had heard my name from afar... it was Chrissi!
She is a girl I have known for a long long time and always loved. It felt so surreal to meet her there... to meet these people in flesh. It's always kind of scary too since you can disappoint them and vice-versa but nope, she is just as delightful offline as she always was online. I was completely in love in 1second. She introduced me to some of her friends which i knew from posting and reading online entries already (small world) and we took some shots together.

After a little bit someone announced that food was going to be served and I honestly must say that it was the first time I have ever seen a queue form so fast. What's up with lolitas and cake anyway? Or is it the "free food"? haha anyway that was amusing. Me and V stayed in our seats for a while waiting for the line to get smaller.
We quickly realised that it was not going to happen so we got a place in line too. I asked for chocolate cake and some ginger ale and V got the party btssb cake. The food was great even though i'm not that keen on sweets. V was so in love with that cake that she wanted to try all similar looking ones at pastry stores to find it again (to no avail). haha

After that there was a huge pause made for chatting and meeting other girls so it was the perfect time for me to escape for a smoke and a trip to the bathroom.
While in the bathroom, after well... doing my business (haha) i got out and Vania was making odd gestures and freaking out and i honestly wasn't understanding. Then, Misako Aoki got out of after doing her "stuff" (haha x2). I washed my hands and just looked at her (while Vania was joined by other statue girls freaking out (this is quite odd for me btw)) and decided to ask her directly if I had time to go out before whatever was going on next:
Me: Hello Misako-sama (felt appropriate to address her like a god because that's what other people do haha), nice to meet you.
Misako: Hello! Wow you speak japanese!
Me: A little, yes... I was wondering... is the actual event starting now or do i still have time? I really would like to go outside for a little bit.
Misako: Ah! I think there's still time, i'm actually going to do something before heading over to the tea party, so don't worry.
Me: Thank you so much, that's great! Also I have to say, you're adorable.
Misako: *smile* oh thank you so much!
Me: Ok, very nice to meet you again and thanks!

So me and Vania left and went for a smoke. When we came back the spanish girls were outside of the bathroom so we chatted a bit and took some pictures because that place was just gorgeous everywhere we went.
We saw Mr.Sawada and the translator who told us that the event was starting so we went back to the room.

While there they finally announced Misako and she made a small speech and informed us that to get a photo with her we'd have to buy her book (nice promo move there, Misako :P) so there was another line being formed and we stood on it for a while.

When we reached Misako, before she could even look at me I just said "Hi, long time no see" to which she laughed and since the translator didn't get anything and looked interested, Misako added "Yes we met earlier... in the bathroom *giggle*". The whole thing was a bit silly and funny, Misako seems to be a very down to earth lovely person which makes me happy since... well you never know. We talked a bit again, told her about where we were from, she took a photo with us and we left to give space for the next person in line.

After the book signing came the usual gift draft and the pick of the best coordinate. It is rather silly but since this whole thing is to promote the love for a brand it makes some sense. Of course both me and Vania wanted to win something as incentive to come again from so far away haha but we are so unlucky that we got zero. We weren't expecting to win best coordinate but were keeping our fingers crossed for something we could share. (i guess pretty much like everyone else there). I didn't really agree with the best coordinate pics but that part was interesting to watch too.
I had to take a picture with the gorgeous chinese table mates, they were really nice and looked amazing! I love that op print. <3 After that, the party was pretty much over, Misako invited us for a group picture and we were so many that we had to go to a separate room just for that. I took the oportunity to take individual shots of my outfit because you should always do that, chat a bit more and say goodbye to some people.

This photo is impressive, no matter how many times I look at it I am still completely overwhelmed.
(I'm in the right area somewhere in the back, can you see me? It's like playing "where's Waldo" again)

After this we went out with our new spanish friends for some drinks and later headed over to our hotel, we were sooo tired. It was an incredible day and we felt very grateful to have met all these incredible people, especially the friends I always wanted to meet in flesh.
Thank you for the amazing time, girls. <3

Selling and Buying

Hi everyone,

Very fast update tonight.

So basically after all these years of only buying and not selling almost anything I own and wear I'm feeling like taking a totally different route and selling off some of my dresses and accessories.
I feel like its time to change a bit. The sweet outfits are almost gone, next i'm going to force myself to sell some chiffon and MmM (one can only own so many elegant party style dresses, right?) and anything else i can think of being able to say goodbye to.
What's the dress you really think isn't too flattering on me and i should sell off? Any ideas?

On the other hand i still fall for stuff that's not necessarily my style and i made some crazy buys, lets just say my love for cats won me over and also my love for oddly shaped bags in colors i already have too much of. Now the rest its up for you to guess.

I haven't been able to buy anything lately, I did get this head dress from Alice & the Pirates. Very Pirate-like indeed. It's got a detachable feather/ribbon pin and a very long thorn fabric bow falling to one of its sides. A bit deconstructed looking even.

Alice and the Pirates Round Feather Headdress (black & white)

That's it for now, nothing much to talk about. I am a bit excited over some brand releases but I'll probably post about that later.
Love, J

Lolita news - Aatp Kuroneko no dance

What do you guys think about this new reserve release from Alice and the Pirates?
Some people say they like the print but aren't crazy about the op cut, some others do not like the fabric type, others dislike the way the print repeats itself accross the bust area.

I love it, i think its cute, elegant and still mature. Would totally wear the jsk, especially in this burgundy shade. I am, however, unsure about the straps as i'm much more used to normal shoulder straps instead of the halter kind (or i'd like to have both options open).
I may be a bit biased towards this dress's print because of how incredibly similar the artwork seems to be with Nodame Cantabile's artwork. Don't you think? I totally loved that anime, hadn't watched something new in a while but when i watched this one I just couldn't stop, it warmed me up from the inside. <3
Anyway, one of my favorite music prints so far for sure, am dying to see what it looks like worn. Just can't wait to see it live! Maybe it'll be available while I'm in Japan.

That is all.
Jo
