I really am starting to feel the stress of a time-line and have to get this done with soon. I am sorry if it will seem as if I'm rushing it.
Like I said, every time we want to go somewhere we need to get on the train.
 |
| This is usually the sort of train we take. The seats can be moved to chance the direction which is of use and the bottom of the seats is also heated. | | | | | |
|
 |
| My choice for that day. Awww i'm gonna miss you vending machines! |
The next day I finally had the chance to go to Shinsaibashi and hit the stores. I fell in love with some things (fortunately not as much as last year) but decided to wait for the sales to buy something from the stores or at least wait till after going to the major used clothes stores due to budget.
We got up very late that day and it was alreasdy lunch time when we arrived at the "triangle" so we just had lunch (we had also missed breakfast because of that).
 |
| Having stores and restaurants in the underground floor is absolutely normal here. Not so ordinary back home. |
 |
| The menu had a monster ice cream. I seriously do not understand how these girls are so tiny! I see them eat, they finish the places just like I do. |
 |
| One of the few shots i have from that day, sorry about the quality. Figured I should post something else than food. |
 |
| Lunch, tasty hamburger wish salad and white rice. it was yummy! |
After that we hit the stores. It's a bit boring for him but he is a sweetheart. I'm going to leave you with some street shots and some store front shots with little to no text thing time.
 |
| Osaka BABY, the stars shine bright store front. Christmas decoration version. They always have things I want, you guys should check them out. |
 |
| Mandarake signs at the door. I had a blast there and my husband found things he liked too so this was actually fun. I need to go there again. |
 |
| Every year I take a snap of those street lamps because they are awesome. |
 |
| Doesn't look like much but its one of the only two places i got stuff from that day, PureSound (one of Osaka's second hand stores). You can buy lolita, japanese punk and goth, cds (mainly visualk), visual k band "costumes", magazines and random merchandise... |
 |
| Here you can see the Marble store sign. I used to go in every time I was there but seriously? I hate the quality of most things so i just passed this time. I didn't have a lot of time, it was already getting dark. |
 |
| My favorite store in Osaka, Atelier Pierrot. They have Victorian Maiden, Juliette et Justine, Atelier Pierrot, Chantilly, triple fortune, Moi-Même-Moitié etc there. They are also some of the friendliest store staff I have ever dealt with, regardless if they change workers or not. I just love going there and of course almost everything these is my style. |
 |
| Osaka's Innocent World. It's like a regular apartment in a building complex. I always find that odd. |
 |
| Not a brand I am familiar with but who the heck names their store "gross"? Do they want us not to shop there? It works XD |
 |
| h.NAOTO's stores are always fun to visit, there always seems to have a ton of people having fun on the inside, that's the idea i always get when i visit one. |
|
 |
| Another one of my favorites, Miho Matsuda. I try to always by something there when i visit. Their accessories are very reasonably priced. |
 |
| Random visual k costumes? I'm not sure which band but i thought they were corny as heck and needed a photo. |
After this we were very tired (we basically spent a ton of time looking for the meta store but couldn't find it!) and found a lovely cafe that served gorgeous looking cake slices. Plus I needed a smoke and I hate how you can never find the right spot to smoke in Japan. I'm very carefully being polite and following all the rules so i didnt wanna be caught smoking somewhere where its not allowed and risk a fine or something.
 |
| The lovely cup of coffee that fit the atmosphere of the place. |
 |
| My strawberry cheesecake with ice-cream and fruits. So pretty! |
The shopping part of the day was over.
My husband wanted us to go see the town's Christmas lights like all couples do on christmas eve and so we did. We walked around that area but ended up going a bit far and it was fun but cold and tiring too. The photos are lovely though and it was insane, the amount of people there and the amount of people coordinating where citizens would move, etc. It was crazy!!!
 |
| Trying to show just how much people there was there! |
After that, while people got ready to party I suppose, we left. We had promised that we would go home and celebrate Christmas together like we do in the west. We got on the train and left.
When we reached Oji I saw Oji Christmas lights too and didn't want them to feel inferior to the Osaka ones so I asked for a photo in front of it.
Awww at least its something!
It was soooo cold that my husband called his dad who was on the run anyway and so just picked us up. We waiting at the convenience store for a while so we wouldn't freeze and then got in the car.
we stopped by Kentucky fried chicken to get part of the xmas dinner and went straight home. Mom was already waiting and dinner was served. A different dinner from the one I have at home but no less delicious.
 |
| We even had a Christmas tree (of sorts)! |
 |
| Tasty KFC chicken that needs to be reserved with some time in advance because its what some people have on Christmas eve.! |
 |
| Delicious handmade food(etc): octopus (sooo tender!), chicken, salads, sashimi, sliced salame, corn soup and wine. |
 |
| Every year on Christmas eve the national figure skating champion is on and i still remember watching last year. We did exactly the same this time. Everyone is so enthusiastic about it and its so nice to see that the newspaper and news focus on almost all sports and not just one (in Portugal is all about soccer soccer soccer). |
After getting a present from my mother in law: she got me a magic stole that keeps me warm! It was time to go to bed again.
What a different yet full Christmas eve this is, in portugal I barely do anything at all (just buy last minute things and help in the kitchen).
It was fun!
That's it for day 8. I shall post what i got tomorrow with the day 9 post. Stay tuned!
Jo
I'm so happy to see some pictures of brand's store in Osaka, I hope you had a wonderful shopping day!
ResponderEliminaryou should queue your posts if it gives you a lot of work, i'm serious i love reading your blog~
ResponderEliminaryeah, i also wondered how do japanese girls stay so skinny with all those goodies they have ;~; lots of exercise?
and wow, so many lights! nothing compared to this year's decorated in our roads xD
Hyrule: Osaka is my fav place here, I'm always surprised to hear some people just stay in tokyo always when they visit. Osaka is worth checking out. ^^
ResponderEliminarDaily: Thank you again! I know right? Usually I'm a bit sad to leave my familly during xmas but this year i was just so depressed with the lack of xmas lights that it actually felt nice to come to such a place.
Hi Jo,
ResponderEliminarI'm glad to still see you posting, and I loved all of the lights decoration around town. That Christmas dinner looked really yummy, and OMG I am in total envy that you went to(or passed by) Atelier Pierrot and Innocent World!
I hope you and your loved ones have a very happy New Year!!
PS: you looked really pretty in that shot where you and your husband went to lunch. You have an aura of mystery to you in that photo =D
I love Osaka. The Meta store is not in the middle of Amerikamura like most of the other stores. It is hard to explain exactly but you kind of just continue on the street from Atelier Pierrot and Innocent World for 5-10 minutes. I used a recent map from a Kera mag to locate it when I was there. If you don't want to spend your money on it then just download scans from jmagazinescans@LJ.
ResponderEliminarBara: I did go in both, i love iw but since almost nothing fits me I drool a lot more over atelier pierrot and chantillys stuff. it's a shame really. You're love it in a iw store, they are so girly and lady-like just what i picture you visiting.
ResponderEliminarThank you for the kindness!
Maria: I knew where it was i thought, i forgot the mags at home because i thought i would find it. I even asked the Miho Matsuda girl for directions but to no avail. I found the building i thought it was in but the second floor (where i remember a meta was) had a "we moved out, for rental sign". LOL I thought i just made a mistake and that's when we went for coffee. Oh well I just went to meta at Tokyo later and found out there that they didn't have what i wanted at the osaka store anyway...
Thank you for the help Maria!
The moment I have been waiting for, photos of the lolita shops ! They all look so nice. And second hand stores really sound amazing, too bad that there aren't more of those in Portugal.
ResponderEliminarYou definitely had a different Christmas but it seems that it was very good and the food looks delicious!
As you said in one of the past entries, I too feel sorry that over there there are more lights and Christmas related stuff than here in Portugal.
Have a nice new year ! Your going to enter 2012 before us ! Ahahah :D
Such pretty pictures! I especially love the ones of the Christmas lights :3
ResponderEliminar~ Kieli ~
adriana: Well even in Japan its all much smaller than I think people imagine it to be in the west. You rarely see a lolita (while you see gyarus everywhere for instance) and there are brands who don't even have a store... even when you ask about a dress they will tell you that they only even got a couple of them at the store and that quantities are limited.
ResponderEliminarI hope you have a great year too! To some extent if its good for you it'll be ok for me and vice-versa (at least in what concerns the comm).
Kieli: Thank you, i loved those too... i didn't like the massive amount of people outside that day though.
Those christmas lights are so pretty! I wish we had that feeling over year, this festive season seems to just pass us by unnoticed!
ResponderEliminarYour strawberry cheesecake looks so damn delicious *.* now you left me craving for a bite. Besides, I really love ice-cream XD
I may need some advice later on where to get a few things for my sister, you look as the perfect person to help me! :3 As i'm reading your blog, I'm showing her some pics of all the stuff and she is loving the stores and the clothes.
Again: Happy New Year! :))
Alda: The Christmas lights were amazing, i felt so happy to be here during this time!
ResponderEliminarEvery coffee shop sells ultra delicous looking cakes... as if it was the dessert course in a portuguese upscale restaurant. I don't get why we can't get stuff like this in regular places back home... it feels kinda sad.
Oh I didn't know your sister liked this sort of thing, she should come to some of our gatherings. We have people of every age group attending and its always fun.
Happy new year to you as well!
Some things thre look both delicious and pieces of art xD Food is gooood, specially when it looks *that* good! *drool*
ResponderEliminarMy sister has some lolita (and more gothic-like) accessories (and some shirts, but mostly accessories), and she's always looking for some more :) I'm pretty sure that she doesn't get a full outfit because she works with kids xD but she's always up for some new stuff (girls will be girls...) ;) At the moment, I know that she's looking for an umbrella, as she lost hers on the bus last month. I've tried to find one, but I didn't succeed, so the search continues!
I'll tell her about EGL and the forum, so she'll get the news :)
Oh i see... well i work with kids too but i don't wear lolita for work or on a regular basis anymore. :P
ResponderEliminarShe gives classes so it would be odd, but she wears accessories all the time - that watch you shot is totally her face :3 and the bows and hats *.*
ResponderEliminarshe looks pretty!
