Day 4 - at home + food

We got up very very late again, 4 pm once more.
Of course first thing we do when we get up is head for the living room for food haha.

First thing I ate was a cup of matcha capuccino which is like heaven for me and a piece of cheese cake that tasted marveously again. We spent some time eating and chatting and watched Japanese tv. Now Japanese tv is filled with food, i'd say 70% of the stuff in any of those channels is food related one way or another.
I took a picture of the tv while an ad for the Mos Burger xmas campaign was on. It's more or less what all advertisements in Japan look like, cute and silly.

I really love Mos Burger, the hamburgers taste super fresh like they are really home made. I already told T that I want to eat there before we leave.

Anyway Mom keeps asking if i'm hungry or just gives me more and more food so suddently I had a pizza toast in front of me.
Now the first time I ate one of these I really thought it was store bought or frozen fast food that you pop into the microwave but later on Mom told me that its just a regular toast covered in store bought pizza sauce with some other stuff on top like onion and green pepper. Wow it does taste like a real pizza, this sauce is incredible.

Anyway there wasn't much planned for the day except for dinner so what happened in the afternoon is irrelevant, I took a nap or surfed the net or something.

At around 8pm we got in the familly car and headed to a nearby Yakiniku restaurant. Yakiniku is basically japanese barbecue so it was all about meat and meat and then some more meat.
The restaurant had regular tables and also bigger japanese style lounges for groups which is where we sat. You had to take off your shoes to enter of course and it was pretty pleasant. The staff handed us some slippers so we could move around the restaurant without having to put on our shoes all the time. The place has a open drink bar meaning some drinks are refilable so you won't have to pay for them over and over again.
Of course I always go for beer and that is not only not free but also pretty damn expensive in Japan as you will learn.
The familly was pretty happy to be together and have this meal, apparently this is a big favorite and I remember going to the same restaurant last time I was here so that means they still haven't found a better place. It was more or less full, there were after work hour groups, high school groups, families and couples there. All sorts of people.
So as I said before yakiniku is all about the meat and you have a big menu to chose from. After picking the sort of meat you want its time to pick other dishes for the side unless you only wish to stuff yourself with meat which I don't think people do much. We chose some kimchi, some assorted vegetables to grill, white rice and T ordered yukhoe for me as he knows I love to eat raw meat and in Japan I actually can safely which is awesome! So I guess asian food is mixed up in Japanese restaurant scenes, not just chinese but also korean.

This is my side of the table before eating, you can clearly see the Yukhoe in the front, my Asahi and the small plates for several purposes such as sauce and to put in the pieces that are grilled and waiting in line to be eaten. ^_^;

So how does this work? Well there's a small round grill in the center of the stone table where everyone sits. It is operated by gas and has a small button to regulate the temperature. Then there are plates with the food that you wish to barbecue. We chose slices of japanese cow meat, some vegetables as I previously meantioned, some cow tongue (apparently very popular) and cow guts as well.

Now I was fine with the guts thing to begin with since as you know portuguese people from my area eat a typical dish that is made of guts mostly but I wasn't so ok with the whole eating tongue part which sounds quite odd. So T used the old "i'm not going to tell her what she ate till after she's finished" technique and i have to say it was quite tasty, doesn't look like tongue at all and tastes like regular more crunchy meat.

You can see what everything looked like here. See those round slices of what appears to be normal meat? That's the tongue.
Again, even though its called Yakiniku there are other things that can be grilled than just meat so the familly ordered some sea food as well. There was squid which is always fabulous grilled, shrimp and clams. The clams were cut open and the lid would be used to place some butter that then melts and adds extra flavour to the whole thing. Delicious.

We were so stuffed that nobody wanted dessert!

It was time to get back into the car and head back home. While on the way Dad wanted to show us something. Apparently there's this famous house that every year gets decorated in a rather insane way for Christmas time and a ton of people come to this area to check it out. It is said that the owner spends more than 100 euros a day!!! because of these lights as well.
We laughed and joked a bit but this is serious business I mean look at all those lights! And most of it moved too. It's a decoration mess but its marvelous. haha
Crazy people.

After that it was really time to go back home. We still went to the living room and I ate matcha ice cream again! I always have matcha ice cream because I'm damn spoiled when i'm around.

Yummy and huge! <3

And that was my day, hope you like reading about food because that was pretty much it.

Love,
Jo

    A tua familia é tão bonita :).

    Beijinhos para ti

    *saudades*

Lucy: I am so dead jealous of you eating roupa velha, perú, aletria, leite creme, nozes, avelas e rabanadas etc. You have no idea! If it wasn't xmas time i wouldn't be thinking of food actually. :P
